FYS101 First Year Seminar: Academic and Career Success
(3.00 Lecture Hrs./Wk.) 3 Credits
This course will give students time to acclimate to their new role as a student beyond the one-day college orientation experience. Students will learn: study and life skills such as time management and self-efficacy, how to navigate college processes and resources, and practice working on learning management systems within a safe, scaffolded framework. Guest speakers, lecture, and hands-on skill sessions will allow students to practice what it takes to be a successful college student as part of the course framework. By the end of the course, students will have: knowledge of the psychology behind successful students and employees, enhanced ability to write and communicate with college staff and students, strong study skills, goal-planning practices for their futures, a draft of a resume/CV and cover letter to use in job searches, and additional skills that will help them be successful beyond the classroom.
