ED216 Foundations of Education

This course focuses on the historical foundations of education from an equity perspective as well as education policy and practice, legal rights and responsibilities of teachers and students, professional development of teachers, student pluralism, current issues in education, the history of institutional/systemic racism in the education system and barriers and achievements to educational access. The course helps participants evaluate the impact of discrimination on marginalized communities and empowers a personal commitment to becoming a professional educator and reflective practitioner who will be able to make informed decisions to enhance equity in an educational environment for children and youth.
