WR240 Introduction to Nonfiction

(3.00 Lecture Hrs./Wk.) 3 Credits

Part of a three-course workshop sequence that introduces students to the techniques of creative writing in nonfiction. Students will examine the conventions for a variety of subgenres of nonfiction, including: journalism; memoir; nature, travel and food writing; and micro-nonfiction, as well as produce original works of nonfiction that will go through a collaborative creative writing workshop. Students will read and research contemporary nonfiction that will expand their views on cultural, canonical, and genre-specific nuance while furthering their creative exploration through the lenses of publishing, creativity, and intersectionality.
