WR241 introduction to Fiction

Part of three-course workshop sequence that introduces students to the techniques of creative writing in works of fiction. Students will examine the way short stories, genre fiction, and contemporary novels fit in the greater creative writing canon through the lenses of publishing, creativity, and story structure. They will produce and workshop original works of fiction and familiarize themselves with a collaborative creative writing critique process. They will also focus on contemporary literature readings that will expand their views on cultural, canonical, and genre-specific nuance while furthering their creative exploration.
